New plans for StatfjordMerger creates StatoilHydro

Downsizing the workforce

person Norwegian Petroleum Museum
When Statfjord’s late-life project kicked off, Statoil took the opportunity to cut operating costs in order to achieve continued growth and extend the producing life of the mature field.

The Statfjord improvement project 2007 aimed to trim the organisation and cut operating costs by roughly NOK 690 million. These goals were achieved as early as the end of 2005. Through the programme, 220 of the 700 people in the Statfjord organisation were redeployed – mostly to other parts of the Statoil organisation. Some took early retirement.

The basic staffing on each of three Statfjord platforms was reduced to 30-35 Statoil employees present on an installation at all times. That also provided the space to execute necessary modifications to the facilities in connection with the late life project.
