The Statfjord North satellite was discovered in January-February 1977 by the Deep Sea Saga rig.

This oil field lies 17 kilometres north of Statfjord in block 33/9. Mobil was operator for the well.

President Carter visits Statfjord A

It is not every day that Norway gets a visit from an American president, but 4 May 1982 was one such occasion. That was when Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalyn took a trip out to Statfjord A, which was operated at the time by Mobil Exploration Norway Inc (Meni).

SAR helicopter in place

A search and rescue (SAR) helicopter has been stationed permanently on Statfjord B since 1983 as part of the emergency response organisation.
