UK block 211/19 and 211/25 awarded to Conoco

The licence for block 211/19 and 211/25 in British waters was awarded in 1970. Geologists already suspected the field existed and the area had been marked on seismic maps as of potential interest.

Blocks were awarded at the discretion of the UK’s Ministry of Power (and successor bodies) on the basis of the programme of work submitted. The third licensing round was launched in 1969, and on 8th June 1970, licence number P104 formally allocated block 211/19 and 211/25 to Conoco.

President Carter visits Statfjord A
It is not every day that Norway gets a visit from an American president, but 4 May 1982 was one such occasion. That was when Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalyn took a trip out to Statfjord A, which was operated at the time by Mobil Exploration Norway Inc (Meni).

SAR helicopter in place
A search and rescue (SAR) helicopter has been stationed permanently on Statfjord B since 1983 as part of the emergency response organisation.
