Production record set
Statfjord’s production for a single day peaked in January 1987 at 850 204 barrels of oil.
No other field in the Norwegian North Sea had previously achieved a similar daily output. On that day alone, Statfjord produced as much as the whole Gulf of Mexico.
During its best year, the field accounted for well over half of Norway’s oil output. And it was responsible at peak for 80 per cent of Statoil’s operating profit.
