Mobil opens Oslo office

Johan D Svendsen was in charge as government relations manager. He had previously been editor of the Mobil Explorer house journal.

A separate post as public affairs manager was also established in 1981. Einar Bergh took on this job later the same year, and became editor of Mobil Explorer from the second issue of 1981.

President Carter visits Statfjord A
It is not every day that Norway gets a visit from an American president, but 4 May 1982 was one such occasion. That was when Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalyn took a trip out to Statfjord A, which was operated at the time by Mobil Exploration Norway Inc (Meni).

SAR helicopter in place
A search and rescue (SAR) helicopter has been stationed permanently on Statfjord B since 1983 as part of the emergency response organisation.
