Statfjord North shutdown
The subsea production installations on the Statfjord North satellite had to be shut down in order to repair equipment related to the water injection wells.
Water is injected into the reservoir to maintain its pressure and thereby improve oil recovery. Various challenges were faced on each well, including some leaking valves. StatoilHydro and its partners on Statfjord North thereby lost 14 000 barrels of oil production per day until the problems were overcome. The field was not back on stream until almost a year later, in the third quarter of 2009.
